Tackling Trends : Nude & Athleisure

Hi Chicsters long time no speak it feels like. In today's post, we will be talking about tricky trends.

If you are following me on Instagram or Snapchat you would know that I spoke at a panel at Howard University on International Women's Day.
I left the panel with a lot of truths but also the realization that the reason why a lot of plus size women seem stuck in a style rut is because they do not want to deal with the plus size double standard. No one wants to be a stereotype or considered sloppy so we stick with what we know.

SHOP THE POST

Inadvertently with this look, I realized I tackled 2 tricky trends the athleisure and the nude trend. I paired the Oversized Mens Sweatshirt (under $20) 2XL from Amazon (Similar for $11) with the faux Suede skirt from Fashion Nova 2x (use code XOCHICH for 15% off) , and the corset my favorite thing about the look was from Zara (similar in Plus) . Finally, I finished the look with nude Pumps which happen to be really comfortable and are Jessica Simpson via Amazon (make sure to seal them though).

So here is why this look works
Although the rules say don't wear baggy clothes because they make you look bigger rather than pairing my baggy sweatshirt with baggy sweatpants, I paired my oversize nude sweatshirt with a corset.
The corset cinched and brought some shape to the garment #classictrick (did it Here too) and created an hourglassesque silhouette.
Finally, because I carry weight around my hips and we are working with "nudes" I went with a darker shade and textured fabric on the bottom.

Tip: Now let's flip things, your shape an Inverted Triangle? ditch the corset belt find a V-neck sweatshirt or DIY one and the same look would work for you.

Loving all this talk about trends then come back Monday for my SPRING TRENDS guide + a list of the Key pieces to shop.

  1. I love love love this look, you truly pulled it off so well. I personally love the fact that you switched the slit of the skirt to the back. Style is really what we make of it.
