Floral Shirt Dress & Black Jeans : CopyChic

asos, curve, shirt, dress

SHIRTDRESS // TOP // JEANS // CLUTCH // PUMPS
When I look at these photos they reminds me of the quote that says "we make plans God laughs", simply because on the day of this shoot I came outside with perfectly curled hair and within minutes the wind turned it into something else.

This look was inspired by the wonderful Kela from Kelaskloset.com, if you have been following me for a while then you know how much I love Shirt Dresses like this white One  (see more options Here)  and in particular this one from Asos so of course it became a closet staple. I am not sure why it didnt occur to me to wear the dress open which turns it into a duster but it didn't. After so much wear I was running out of ways to style it but that was until I saw a post on Kelaskloset.  This was serendipitous because one of the new series that I planned to start in 2015 is the "CopyChic" series. I figured since I am constantly inspired by other bloggers why not do posts on how I incorporate similar outfits that I have been inspired to wear by other bloggers.

There isnt much difference between my look and Kelas the only difference is that she was smart enough to wear a Turtle Neck. To get the look make sure that the Shirt Dress is the stand out piece by keeping the rest of the look simple; a neutral/monochrome base works best because it keeps it fresh/modern and does not draw attention from the dress.

Transitioning : Woven Joggers and Sweater

How to style joggers

forever 21 plus joggers
Get the Joggers, Sweater, Clutch, Pumps and Lipstick OR "SHOP THE POST" down below
These black and white joggers where a closet favorite over the summer, but to be quite honest I didn't wear them as much as I would have liked because I felt they brought unwanted attention to my derriere. However I feel like I am going to get a lot more wear out of them this fall simply because I can pair them with longer knits like tunic length sweaters and dusters.

I love the woven jogger style because its the best of both worlds unlike its knit counter part it can be easily dressed up as well as down. I simply love the fact that it is  still just as comfortable and as fuss free as its knit counter part. This pair happens to be from Forever 21 and was purchased over the summer, currently they have a selection of knit and woven joggers if you haven't tried them out please do; when you try them out and since its your first pair you might want to start with a black pair like these from Asos.

In order to transition my joggers I paired them with a semi sheer sweater that I picked up from Macys. I added my favorite black pumps and since I was totally inspired and hyped from seeing the images from the Alexander Wang collection for HM I decided to steal from the boys (the watch: shhh dont tell............) and I completed the look with my trusty woven clutch.

*******by the way Forever 21 is having there mid season sale********

Infatuation: Culottes and SportsWear

Click to get the Moto Jacket, CulottePrinted Pumps, and Statement Clutch
OR "SHOP THE POST" down below
I had been eyeing these culottes on Asos for months it came out in the spring so I figured by the end of summer they would go on sale to my amazement they did not. After much deliberation with my self I  decided to go forth and get them.
Honestly if one could be infatuated with a piece of clothing I would say that I am infatuated with the culotte.  I think almost as much, thats if not more than I was infatuated with the Midi Skirt a couple of years ago. Their just something so very chic ( I know cliche) about them my photos dont seem to do them justice.
Furthermore they are also completely versatile because they can go from office, to dinner, to night out, and can even be dressed down.
For this look I knew I wanted to dress my culottes up, however I still wanted the look to remain effortless and since sportswear is still everywhere I knew that  it would make the perfect combination. So I paired the culotte with my number tee from Forever21 and my goto Leopard pumps from Aldo and since it fall I completed the look with my leather jacket.

Have I convinced you enough, I truly believe culottes are a style to try and  if you dont want to splurge well here is a DIY for you.

Metachromatism: Orange Blazer and Floral Crop Top

Click to get the Blazer, Crop Top, Bucket Bag, Jeans and Pumps OR "SHOP THE POST" down below
As I've stated in my last couple of posts its fall lol and I'm not sure what it is but ever since I thrifted this silk pumpkin colored blazer I always reach for it during fall. Maybe its all the subtle suggestions from the leaves changing colors to pumpkin madness ( halloween, pie, lattes e.t.c.). For this outfit I started with this floral crop-top from Forever21, since it is a crop-top with an awkward length I paired it with a pair of high waisted jeans. To polish the look I added my blazer and pumps voila! this is my go to combination.

Harlem World: Black Sweatshirt and White Midi Skirt

How to dress up a sweatshirt, plussize

Shoedazzle Candis

River island White Midi Skirt

how to wear a midi skirt in the fall
Click here to get a similar sweatshirt, skirt, sandals and clutch or "SHOP THE POST" down below
This sweatshirt made me nostalgic. Two thoughts came to mind as I thought about the word Harlem, me going into the city jumping off at 125th to get my hair braided and then rushing over to 34th street to get in some shopping and  the 90's single / remix with Diddy (Puff Daddy as he was formally known), Mase and a host of others. Dont you just miss those days.

The other day I walked outside in a dress and some flats and felt a cool breeze thats when it dawned on me that it was officially fall and that it was time to start dusting off my winter clothes.

As soon as I scored this sweatshirt ( while thrifting I dare say brand new) I knew that I was going to dress it up and make it more feminine. So I paired it with my plexiglass belt from Asos  in order to give me some shape and finished it with my white skirt from River Island. Since we are still transitioning into fall the weather was mild enough for me to pair the look with sandals; I had to add some color so I decided on my orange clutch.

Citrus: Pink Dress and Orange Clutch

river, island, bodycon, dress
Click here to get a similar dress, shoes, and clutch or "SHOP THE POST" down below

There is something about hot pink on chocolate skin the color just seems to pop; thats one of the things that attracted me to this dress its pretty much a standard bodycon but the color makes it a show piece . I also like the fact that the dress is very simple which makes it very verstile. It can be dressed up or down and be tweaked to suit your personal style and its  actually the same dress I wore here.  I got it last summer for a steal from River Island. For this rendition of the dress I decided to colorblock subtly with my orange clutch and then tie the colors in the dress and clutch together with my floral sandals.

Color blocking was all the rage a couple of years ago how do you feel about it now is it still CHIC?

Comfy Chic: Chambray Shirt and Midi Skirt

I never used to understand when women would say that they start planing their outfit with their shoes. Until I noticed a direct correlation between my mood on a night out and my shoes. I found that when I wear my fancy shoes ( 5 inch pumps) that I  would spend the night looking for a seat. However when ever I wear comfy shoes/ carry flats the nights seemed to be more fun. Its  a constant dilemma for me when Im going out to decide if I want to be comfy or chic. That was until I rediscovered these cobalt platform sandals; I bought them over 2 years ago but never really wore them until recently. They feel like clouds compared  to my Choo's  so Im always trying to think of outfits that will go with them.

So what goes through your mind when planing an outfit for a night out do you make practical choices or is it all about being chic.

On Safari: Vintage Blazer and Boyfriend Jeans

Click here to get similar Jeans, Jacket, Sandals, Clutch or "SHOP THE POST" down below
As Im writing to you right now my favorite new sandals are missing. Last weekend I decided to go on an impromptu trip and I left them in the trunk of the rental kind of bummed. So now Im trying to decided whether to just get another pair of my sandals in brown cause they are on sale for  around $29 or to just let them go. Cause I figure that  if I miraculously find my black ones then it will  be a win win situation because I would have two pairs of these super chic pair of sandals right .

Portrait Mode: White blazer and Floral Clutch

Ive been in kinda of  a slump as of late, which means that I havnt been shooting for the blog; I am still unsure why, but I have a feeling its because of all it takes to do all of "this".

Many people don't seem to understand how draining D.I.Y blogging can be ( and being a blogger is just one of my many hats) unlike models and celebrities their is no  stylist, makeup artist, hairstylist or photographer its all me. Which leads to the title of this post while shooting this look instead of putting the camera in creative mode I made a mistake and left it in portrait mode, so I got great detail shots but mostly blurry full shots. This is an example of some of the frustrations one must deal with as a D.I.Y blogger. As the blog reaches its two year anniversary I have  been thinking about what I want for this blog and where I want it go, will elaborate further later.

In lighter news this look features two things that I am currently loving "longer" shorts and tropical print.  Everywhere I turn I see hawaiian florals, palm print, pineapples and all things tropical so it seems like I am not alone. A great way to try a trend without fully committing is to try it in an accessory like a clutch for example.

So what do you think about the tropical trend YAY or NAY?

Boots in The Summer: Green T-shirt Dress and Gladiator Sandals

So I have never been to Coachella or any music festival ( its on my bucket list) at that, but what I never get is why people wear boots. I dont no about you, but I could never wear boots in the summer because I know that it would be equal to me having a rain forest in my shoes. I guess its a California thing. Any-who here is one of the looks I shot for an upcoming lookbook on YouTube. On one of those more "summery" spring days; sadly before the rain brought back the cold. Around this time of year  the pictures of Coachella and similar festival style photos tend to awaken the innate festival goer in me ( so  you may see a few more post like this).  So it made perfect sense to put a lookbook together about what I would wear if I was fortunate enough to go. If you are anything like me and would be more interested in outfits than the music at a music festival or are going to any of the upcoming "fests" ( lollapalooza, BonnarooEssence Fest ) and need some inspiration then come on over to YouTube where I will be posting my No-chella Lookbook.
Before I forget I must mention how unbelievably comfy this T-shirt dress is ( I wear biker shorts underneath mine) I know that I will be living in it all summer long ( will probably buy more this River Island  one has caught my eye).

Orange Is The New ? : Orange Midi and Trench

Currently nursing a headache but I really wanted to post this; the weather has been so-so and after experiencing three seasons last week (snow, 70 degrees and everything in-between) this trench is due for the cleaners.Words cant express how put together I feel when I put it on.  I really wanted to pair this look with my floral sandals but because I knew I would post this look on the blog I decided I would spare you guys lol.  I actually bought this dress at the end of last summer and I am glad that I finally got to wear it, but to be honest this shade of orange shows EVERYTHING so if you are thinking of purchasing something similar better have your Spanx ready. In other news happy belated Easter, the best news of all is that Jesus lives!
