3 Ways to Take An Outfit From Day To Night : Red Pumps & Culottes

Valentines Day Outfit Inspiration

PUMPS // LEATHER JACKET // CROSS BODY // CULOTTES
Valentine's day happens to fall on a Tuesday this year which means most of us will be celebrating after work. Speaking of Valentines Day if you are looking for Gifts Ideas for Him make sure to check out This Post.

Luckily for me, the darlings at Dia & Co sent me these gorgeous Red Culottes (not be mistaken for These) and I thought why not pair them with my new Red pumps (Similar).

If you've got plans after work and no time to waste these3 tweaks tcan take you from day to night. For the sake of this post lets divide the body into 3 sections head, core, extremities.

Step 1 Head

Let your hair down, change your part, toss it around a bit, add some rouge, or darken your eyes and wipe away the tiredness from the day by brightening up the undereye; also don't forget to add a bit of highlighter.

Step 2 Core

Ditch your blazer, twinset, cardigan etc. for night time appropriate outerwear a leather jacket, bomber or kimono. Consider switching your top too for something sheer, lacy or cut out.

Section 3 Extremities

Finally ditch the sensible shoes 🚫, switch out your footwear for something strappy, leg lengthening or bold. Dont neglect your arms pile on your statement rings, bracelets and cuffs.

Three steps later you have a look very appropriate for life after hours.
Now unto the outfit, I started the look off with Culottes ( Sz 18 Eloquii) into that I tucked in a layering Turtleneck from Nordstrom ( wearing an XL it's stretchy long and runs a half size big #essential ), on top of that I threw on my trusty Biker jacket from Old Navy.
For accessories, I knew I had to pair my red Pumps with the Culottes because it was the perfect Pant to show off the ankle detail. To break up the red and black and pull the look together I went for my thrifted mix metal crossbody (Similar).

Styling Tip: Pair your reds together (they don't have to match) it always makes an impact.

SHOP RED PUMPS

I'll say this I've been loving Pumps with the whole ankle strap detail (see this Post) just adds something you know.

How often do you go from work to after-hour engagements? How do you transition an outfit from Day to Night?

Winter Basics : Grey Pumps & Grey Long LIne Cardigan

PUMPS // CARDI // GIRLFRIEND JEANS // CROSSBODY // SCARF

In today's post, we are going to be talking Basics they are truly an underrated but essential part of your closet. If you are anything like me you are guilty of buying inexpensive basics and honestly it's not the way to go. The fact is that basics never go out of style and if you're stocked up on them you will never have to say "have nothing to wear" again well almost never.

Invest in basics in neutral colors

Why? Typically neutral colors form the basis of most outfits hence they are the most worn. When you invest in them they last longer and wear better. Cost per wear, you need to spend your money, think higher grade cotton's and wools luxury fabrics like Cashmere aren't your thing. An added bonus your overall outfit will look more expensive.

Go monochrome

Why? Wearing a color head to toe always looks Chic, its power dressing at its best. You look well put together, its ageless, sophisticated, typically slimming and if you took advice number one and invested in your basics you also look well dressed.

Invest in Tailoring

Why? Unless you're investing in luxury brands or have a fit model chances are you'll need to tailor structured basics. Everyone needs a Basic black coat preferably in two lengths, and a basic blazer in a neutral color. Although it's an extra expense making that investment into the fit of piece by tailoring them will make all the difference and completely elevate your look.

SHOP THE POST

This look is comprised of basics and this is my "am trying but not really trying look" perfect for a warm winter day. Rather than lug a heavy coat I opted for a Knee length cardigan, a basic black tank, some basic distressed Jeans and the star of the show Lace up Pumps.

Why this outfit works: I played with proportions, a trick that makes any outfit look smart and I stuck with the same color palette.

I've learned the hard way that basics are a cornerstone especially when trying to style my trendier pieces. Here are the basics I've invested in this winter so far a striped Turtleneck, Knee length cardigans (in gray and black), Ankle boots in black and in a Printed neutral ( worn Here), heeled Over the Knee Boots finally😭 (worn Here). I also plan on investing in more Chunky Knits, definitely more sweats (thanks athleisure trend), flat Over The Knee and ankle boots.

Do you invest in Basics? How do you elevate them? What stores do you got to to get them?

How To Style (Wide Calf) Over The Knee Boots

SWEATSHIRT // JACKET // TURBAN // OTK BOOTS
Happy New Year Chicsters this the first official post of the year 🙌🏾 I have to be quiet honest transitioning back to work this week was rough (was it for you?). If you are following me on Instagram, Youtube or Snapchat you know the struggle Ive had, trying to find Over The Knee boots that are in style, come in a size 11, and fit my WIDE calf

Im happy to say Ive found a near perfect pair and #IMGRATEFUL 😬

SHOP THE POST

I decide for my first outfit that I do one for the gram aka the young ones lol. I paired my OTK boots (currently over 50% off HERE) with a distressed mens sweatshirt from HM (similar on sale HERE), an old thrifted camo Jacket (similar) and a velvet turban from Asos. Ive literally been wearing this turban non stop for the last couple of day its a stylish alternative to the basic Beanie (GET IT HERE).

HACK
If your tall ( or in my case Tallish 5'8")  and you cant find OTK boots that are actually Over the knee then pick up these mock OTK Tights to create the illusion that they are higher up.

TIP
BTW if you do end up getting the mock OTK tights size up at LEAST 1 size if not 2 especially if you have a butt.

So how do the boots fit?
Im glad you asked, when I first received them they felt a little snug but loosened up pretty quickly; they have a side zipper so your foot can easily slide in. They also feature laces on the back that you can customize for a better fit. They are a stiletto heel 😡 however they are pretty comfortable in my opinion. The boots are wide calf and moderately wide with friendly; my calves measure at 18" and they fit with room.
I hope I answered all your questions leave any further question down below in the comments and ill be sure to answer.

Ive got some exciting changes coming up so stay tuned for those UPDATES and as I reiterated HERE I want this site to be a RESOURCE and that will the underlying theme for the YEAR. Make sure to come back Wednesday for another post (Hint: Best of 2016)

How To Style an Ugly Christmas Sweater

SWEATER // SANDALS // AVIATOR // SKIRT
Its begining to look a lot like christmas......
I've had the idea probably since last year that to do a post styling ugly christmas sweaters so here it is.
Love how culturally we've embraced the trend with more and more ugly christmas sweater parties every year ( see more U.C.S here). Its one of those things you hate to love, speaking of hate and love, I used to really despise christmas music and now when I hear it, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Please tell me I'm not the only one, it must be a sign that Im getting old😬

SHOP THE POST

So I decided rather than keeping my look casual as one would expect, that I dress it up. I paired the Sweater from Target in an XL with my FTF X DIA&Co box  skirt ( Click here for 50% off your first box). I love this full Skirt its exactly what I wanted and was looking for the length the fabric and shape 👌🏾👌🏾 make sure to ask for it when you request your DIA&Co box. Finally to finish off the look I choose my furry Red sandals (cause I didnt have these red Pumps) and Voila the look is finish.

Tip: Got a bit of a tummy pair a cropped sweater with High waist pieces like a midi skirt or mom Jeans for a flattering fit.

Be sure to come back Sunday for my Gift guide for new moms that I've been talking all about and THANKS for all the 👀  and 👆🏾on my Top Last Minute Mens Gift Guide. As always I really appreciate your feedback in the comments. I want to know are you still shopping for gifts? Is there anyone in particular that you find hard shopping for? Let me know and ill be sure to incorporate it in an upcoming post.

SHOP UGLY SWEATERS

BTW Target is offering 25% off Outfits for everyone and an additional $10 off $50 or $25 off $100 so, if uve been eyeing some pieces like almost everything from the WhoWhatWear collection (like this Dress) id take advantage of this deal.

I paired the look with my new Asos Aviators that Ive been talking about all over Vlogmas and Snapchat but Im not sure if I should have rocked it with this look what do you guys think Hot or Hmm.

How To Find The right Coat : HM Camel Coat and Snakeskin Midi Boots

COAT // BAG // BOOTS
I've been on the hunt for the perfect Camel coat for a couple of seasons. I scored this One in a sale two summers ago but the Boxy fit did nothing for my shape (will be included in closet sale  Join the mailing list for details) so I knew I needed to get another one. I remembered vaguely seeing on Instagram that one of the plus models was the face of the new HM studio collection, I was definitely intrigued. By the time I got a chance to check it out online almost everything was sold out, so I made a mental note that when I was in NY for Fashion Week that Id check it out (New York always gets the best stuff 😫).

SHOP THE POST

The entire trip was a whirlwind but on the last day I had some down time between a show and an event so I decided to hit up HM. As soon as I spotted the Coat I made a beeline for it and I started praying that the arms would fit, the jacket isnt plus. It fit so well, with room even that I had to Snap about it!

Tip: Your outerwear should fit just as well as your clothes try on as many as you need to in order to find the right fit an silhouette why? It's the first thing anybody sees

SHOP ESSENTIAL OUTERWEAR

The Coat is probably one of my fav purchases of the year, so for this look I wanted it to be the star. I paired it with a black base (girlfriend Jeans and black top), Snakeskin midi boots and a black saddle bag.
Every woman needs a Wrap coat, (like This or This) it's the perfect silhouette for most body types; because unlike other coats that tend to add bulk the belt on it cinches you in and creates some shape. Now if you have a straight or an Inverted triangle body type then a Boyfriend coat will work for you. Another coat that looks great on most is the car coat, finally if you're pear shaped and even hourglassed shape stay clear of boyfriend styles.

Looking for more info on coats, I filmed an Outerwear guide that should be up shortly on Youtube Subscribe Here so you know once its up. Also come back tomorrow AKA midnight EST for my Black Friday deals and steals round up. Finally with all the deals going on, this is truly the perfect time to splurge on some great outerwear if you choose to, don't forget to use your Ebates to save even more.
Happy Thanksgiving😘

How often do you buy Coats? when buying what's the most important thing after price, style?

8 Items You Need To Survive a Polar Vortex aka Winter

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO SATY COZY DURING A POLAR VORTEX
GLOVES // VEST // SWEATER // CAMEL COAT //  TRENCH COAT  // SCARF
// BEANIE  // BOOTS
Being a former New Englander I fully grasp and have a sense of appreciation for winter. So when I hear locals ( people in the DMV) talk about winter weather when their is just a sprinkling of snow on the ground I get amused.

However this week was something else and according to the news all we are/were experiencing is/was a Polar Vortex. Honestly it probably wasnt that cold but it was the first real taste of winter  ( it was so cold that it made me think of New York holiday weather minus the snow) we've had this fall and I can definitely say that I wasnt ready for it.

So if you are like me and you need to get ready and to add a few items to weather prove your wardrobe then look no further all is here. I'm all about those little extras that can just elevate an outfit. Which is why if you only get one thing I suggest you get this fur vest from Nordstrom. Stay cozy my friends ( in my best dos equis voice)
