Fall Forecast: Top 5 Noteworthy Trends

So with NYFW only a few days away I decided to round up my top 5 newish fall trends. The first trend being Matchy Matchy trend is still going strong and it was seen on quite a few runways  like the ones of Jonathan Sanders and Peter Pilotto.  Honestly I've been looking for a set that I really like and that wouldn't break the bank for under $40 its been almost impossible. However I spotted a set on
Asos that  I may be purchasing. Even though it is a little bit more than I wanted to pay, if I get it Ill be sure to feature it.

The next trend that has piqued my interest is the  Robe Coat  it was also featured on a couple of runways like that of  Altuzurra, and Mark Fast. If you know me you know how much I  like to cinch my waist. Sometimes in heavy  coats one tends to loose their shape so I love how this design helps to keep that. Elizabeth Toledo  designed a beautiful one for her Lane Bryant collection but I believe it is sold out.

Pastel colors were the break through colors for last fall. Pastel pink coats were seen allover the street style blogs and this year the trend was equally as popular and was featured on the runways of  Chloe, Carvin and Gucci. For now pastels are no longer reserved for the spring. If your wondering how to style it pair it neutrals like grey. I definitely plan on wearing my pastels this fall.

Solange is a street style star in my book; I remember spotting a picture of her in head to toe primary colors and I was awed. Well it turns out she as always was ahead of us all. The bright color trend was spotted on runways like Prabal Gurung, Monique Lhuillier, Altuzarra and Alexander Wang. So if standing out is your thing then this  is a definite trend to try.

Last but not least is the shift dress trend this nod to 60"s mod was spotted on runways like D Square, Gucci, Mui Mui, and Valentino. I have to say that I dont care for this trend much because despite the fact that I have worn minis in the past its not the best for my body type. Simply because I carry weight in my thighs; However this  is a great trend for women with an inverted triangle shape because they typically have great slender legs. The A line silhouette also creates the illusion of fuller  hips so if you have this body type this is a definite trend to try .

The new season means new trends, however there were quiet a few trends from last fall that are still going strong this fall plaid, midi skirts, and leopard print just name a few so dont feel like you need to go and buy a completely new fall wardrobe. If you do want to refresh for fall I believe that these trends that I have highlighted above will update your fall wardrobe perfectly.

Are there any trends I should have added to the list?

A/W '13 (Fall) Trends: Leopard print

So I think the month of october should be renamed the #PhillipLimForTarget month because every blogger I know has done a post on it lol! So add this post to the list, I have to say I was kinda excited for this collab to launch which is unusual for me. It literally sold out in my local store by the evening of the debut which was a first. Thankfully I was able to snag my skirt of the website (by the way its made really well and I especially love the non-cheap looking elasticized waist band). I wanted the mustard cross-body bag but it sold out; I know people are selling them but I refuse to pay the up-charge on eBay . As for autumn and winter trends leopard is making a comeback ( like it ever went out of style) and this season its on acid hence the crazy color schemes and yes the outfit was completely inspired by "The Daleigh".
P.s. My Instagram & YouTube Dolls saw this outfit first so if you would like to be in the know and you are not part of the family, what are you waiting for!

LEATHER SKIRT + CHAMBRAY TOP

We were having some what of an indian summer early in october I think today is the first real day its been below 60, so of course I was taking advantage of  still being able to be bare legged.  Urggh!! I am already missing summer but I do love the changing seasons because it means new trends to try. I scored this leather skirt on sale for $10 what me attracted to it was the quilting which seems to be a micro  trend of its own this fall. Leather + quilting + chambray + beanie I say thats a wining combo what do you think.

A/W '13 (FALL) TRENDS: PLAID

The first and most prominent trend for a/w 13 would definitely be plaid I personally thing its more of a fad because I dont see it translating into the spring unless its in black and white. However its every where its taken over! Plaids/tartans are here to stay this autumn and winter; the print has been reinvented in silks, chiffons and brocades. The great thing about this trend is that it is thrift-able so if your on a budget or dont want to spend a lot, look first in a boys closet or head over to the thrift store.

The years end is upon us, can you believe it, I cant. I remember the beginning of the year like it was yesterday I was so uncertain about many things in my life and worried about what God had in store for me; but as usual he did not fail and even as this year ends and somethings are still uncertain, I am comforted by the fact that he has never and will never fail me.
So this metallic skirt has been sitting in my closet for almost two years. Mainly because for many reasons I just dont wear em this short anymore. One being that I spend my friday/saturday nights usually catching up on my fav shows/cleaning/catching up on work, but I like to be prepared for the days when I venture into my past life lol!

WHAT TO WEAR: HOLIDAY DINNER

Sorry to interrupt regularly scheduled programing. This post was intended to be a video on youtube but after some thought I knew I wouldn't have it up before thanksgiving so I opted to do a post. If you have ever ventured into making video's you will know its no small feet. From editing out outtakes to bloopers: I have a very VIBRANT five year old ( who always wants to be in mommy's videos), to voice overs, to editing pictures, to video effects and finally rendering ( in my mind you only do youtube for two reasons you love it or you are getting paid lol).
I came up with three scenarios and styled my outfits accordingly.
Meet the parents
For many reasons the holidays seem to be the most convenient time for folks in relationships to meet each others families. If you are in that situation this is for you. Personally I would go sweet and sassy no matter your personal style (that is if you are into whips, chains, spikes, lace, leather and all things naughty) this is not the time to show it ( even if its on trend) mom's as well as dads have a view in their heads of whom they want their son to be with and none of the afore mentioned items of clothing is involved. With that in mind I started with a chiffon blouse tucked into a skater skirt which I finished of with opaque tights and a bootie.

Grubbing
Now this is what I do during the holidays.I leave all my fancy clothes at home because they get in the way of me getting down. This is such an easy outfit a tunic and leggings . Legging are perfect cause they have stretch in them and a roomy tunic will camouflage any food baby.

Tunic: H&M (get similar HERE HERE) sleeveless trench: Old Navy leggings: Target ( cool leggings HERE HERE)

boots: Just Fab ( get HERE or similar HERE  and wide calf ones HERE) scarf: Gift

Host/Hostess
First I will say I have never been a hostess (at least not officially anyway). Its something I dread ( but I know its coming)  because I know the work involved in cooking and of course cleaning because your having guests over and finally cleaning after they leave. Like most hostesses you will be busy till the last minute, probably showering as your guests are arriving. You want to keep things simple, practical but put together/luxe. when I think luxe "silk" is the first thing that comes to mind. I started off with a silk blouse and to add a kick I paired it with leather pants, finally I topped it off with a cozy cardigan a statement ring and sparkly studs.

P.S skater skirts are great for all body types they camouflage as well as give the illusion of more where their is less and you can eat as much as you want. Also leather pants are optional maybe a Jacquard/ brocade pant or one in oxblood if you want to stay on trend but any slim/ankle pants will do. Would love to see what you wear for your upcoming holiday dinners you can tag me on IG or tweet me a pic  everything is @supplechic. So which role will you be playing for Thanksgiving/Christmass?

JAIL BAIT

HOW TO MIX PRINTS

HOW TO WEAR HED TO TOE PRINTS

HOW TO WEAR/MIX PRINTS ON A PLUS SIZE FULL FIGURE BODY

HOW TO WEAR PRINTED PANTS
 Collar: ALDO  Sweater/Belt: H&M  Pants: FOREVER21+  Bag:ZARA   Shoes: Shoemint
I have to say that the head to toe print trend is one of my favorite trends. Solange, Olivia, and June Ambrose to name a few have pulled this trend of effortlessly, but alas its a tricky trend and can go wrong so quickly. Since I consider myself a rookie I went with a neutral palette and added a pop of color
(I am obsessed with these shoes click HERE).
So tell me how did I do?
P.S If you would like to see how I styled these pants differently click the YOUTUBE link below or in the side bar. Also I am hosting a small giveaway on YOUTUBE make sure you enter.

CINQ CHOSES

It seems that of late I have become intrigued by all things french. Hence the title "five things" I think its because of the latest street style shots from Paris fashion week. Or it may be because the innate frenchman in me has surfaced. Frenchman? I took french of and on for about six years of my life. The funny thing about the whole thing is all I can say is "what is your name" and "my name is". I feel bad for my mom sometimes she really tried to make me cultured, french, piano ......... But all I wanted to do was draw and sing.

Now here are my current five
favorites:
Gabi FResh plus size blogger Slaying
Bloggers in Tutu's
Pencil Skirts and TeesTee shirt pencil skirt and pumps
Leather sleeves
                                Anything and everything Solange
Leather Sleeve coat Solange ELLE south AFrica wearing African Designers

I AM loving the current explosion of plus size bloggers in TUTU's. As I said on my FB page I guess we all have inner ballerina's in us. As usual Gabi didint disappoint I also loved the outfit Gurl With Curves put together; if you are intrested in this style I know that forever21 has a few less expensive versions of the tutu skirt.
I could write a post just on the PENCIL SKIRT. The pencil skirt embodies my philosphy on style: it accentuates ones curves, it is sultry/sexy without being vulgar, its sophisticated and leaves room for the imagination.............
Pairing it with a tee makes it modern and gives off that effortlessy chic vibe we are all trying to attain.
Off course one of the biggest trends for fall is LEATHER and I have been obssesed with leather sleeves for about two winters  I am still trying to find the "right look" within my price point. I am crossing my fingers that it will happen soon.
PRINTS!!! If you didn't know I am Nigerian, we love prints and all things colorful, bold and clashing. You can take the girl out of Naija but you cant take the Naija out of her.
Last but not least SOLANGE I am thoroughly intrigued by this woman; I just love her style and how she owns who she is. It cant be easy being her, but if her sister owns her music SOLANGE owns her style, her style is impecable! its the perfect mix of high, low, edgy, modern,  and vintage with an ethnic twist. My goal is that one day I will be able to work with her
( I am having a Stan moment ).

P.S  Rant alert!I need a HTML crash course I have spent literally four hours trying to place picture where I want them and trying to get rid of extra space really peeved feeling a little better now if the space wants to be there let it be!!
Ive got a Mini Look-book out on the TUBE check it out if you havnt already

pas de DEUX

SUPPLECHIC
As promised here is part two;
Lately I have been gravitating towards the black and white palette and consequently I have purchased a few clothing pieces with that color combination.
The sun dress is the quintessential summer staple, it even has "sun" in its name.
During Full Figure Fashion week I spotted this dress and i knew it was coming home with me.I love this dress for three reasons it has a palm print (vacation!!), it was thirteen dollars and it features the silhouette of the moment the "fit and flare".
PINAFORE PLUS SIZE
For fall I decided to go for a "school girl" inspired look I layered a blouse underneath the dress and turned it into a pinafore.
HOW TO TRANSITION FROM SUMMER TO FALL
In addition the blouse was buttoned all the way to the top, a statement necklace and botties completed the look
FALL TRENDS 2012 MILITARY PLUS SIZE
depending on your weather you can go bear legs or if its a bit chilly add some tights.Their is just something I love about black tights and black botties
DRESS, BLOUSE - H&M JACKET OLD - JC PENNY SHOES- TARGET
P.S I Got this dress from H&M ( I love the H&M's in New York City they dont make em the same)

LAYERS

When I first came up with the concept for this blog I told my self I would be posting twice a week definitely not twice a month lol! but as they say, we plan God laughs; I am so busy these days I go days without coming across anything fashion related (well maybe not days more like 18-24 hours!)
On the other hand it is still like 80 degrees were I live during the day, but it does drop significantly at night which annoys me because by mid day I am sweating! We are currently experiencing climate-control issue's in my workplace( thats a long story)
hence my previous statement.

Consequently I decided do a series on how I transition my favorite summer pieces for fall. Rompers/playsuit have been out for about three summers but believe it or not, I only have one and I bought it this summer ( I am most comfortable with classics and when I do venture out I have strict parameters). I hate spending a lot of money on trendy things especially when they will not come back the following year so I wait. Needless to say the romper kept on coming back and I finally found one in my size, my price point, and in a flattering silhouette. So off course you know, that I couldnt just store it away just because summer is over.

Here is a typical summer outfit
would have added a fedora and shades if I didn't have my hair in this retro inspired style
To transition the romper for fall the first thing I did was to layer on a light sweater
I chose the sweater because I wanted to play with prints, it has graduated stripes and is in a neutral palette just like the romper. To add some color I choose my purple suede loafers and I finished the look off with a printed bag that also had the same shade of purple to tie the whole look together.

Finally I added another layer for warmth
(you can decided to add as many layers as you would like )

If its colder where you live and if your like me and you dont want to give up your romper, all you have to do is add some opaque tights, which with this particular outfit I would pair with combat boots and a red lip,to compliment the red in the bag.
P.S Stay tuned for the other pieces I will be transitioning for fall and also for the giveaway winner announcement
( I havnt forgotten).
