SPRING TRENDS 2013: SUITS

After the hiatus we are back to spring trends as the title says the next trend is SUITS. So I have to say that one of two things must be happening its either I am getting older and my style is slowly becoming like my mothers "cringe" or fashion is truly repeating itself and my mother had killer style . I used to detest suits growing up, suits with embellishments, cut-outs, shoulder pads and lace; now I go thrifting looking for these things. 

Any way the "suit" trend has been building momentum  for some time, and as you can see Ms. Gabi was ahead of the curve. The suit trend has been modernized to include prints, lux fabrics, in season colors as well as shorts. 

As much as I love short suits I just dont think its practical for my life, I tried to picture an occasion where it would be appropriate and for the most part I couldn't.  So its the pant suit for me preferably in a bright color like cobalt, purple or green. I would also love a printed one (SOLANGE is the queen of those) but I want to start first with a solid colored impeccably tailored suit. MONO-ESQUE

In this outfit I feel like I am channeling my inner Solange (her style is literally the sugar in my tea). The weather has been bi-polar lately one day its 60 and its looking up, another day its snowing which turns into freezing rain lol! I guess thats what I love about the monochrome trend cause although its supposed to be a spring trend to me it lends its self more for winter. However you could spring-ify the trend with pops of color like tangerine and pineapple (almost sounds like a tropical drink). Can you tell from the pictures how much I adore this skirt (actually the fabric) and it was only six bucks! P.s I am on the hunt for a modern pant suit (preferably in color) so if you come across one in size 16 please holla at ya girl!

BFSC: ISLAND STATE OF MIND

I am in serious need of a vacation,since that is a long way off I will console my self by dressing like I am on vacation. I am really having a citrus moment,I have been graduating towards colors like chartreuse/citron.I was so happy when I scored this 100% silk skirt (brand new)while thrift-ing it was definitely my score of the summer.

So happy that I have only three more pieces to cross off my BFSC list. I actually made this top three years ago when I was desperately on the hunt for a cropped bustier but couldn't find one that had big enough cups. I have to say I was definitely out of my comfort zone with this outfit cause typically when I wear items like this I usually, have to have a jacket or cover-up. Strapless anything (without outerwear) is a no-go area for me because of a combination of reasons my arms and bust. Wearing strapless tops especially when you are busty can be tricky finding the proper bra is key. Thankfully stores like Lane Bryant and torrid and brands like Fig-leaves, Just My Size and Bare Necessities are listening.   

P.S I have learned that the key to wearing crop tops when you are plus size is all about what you wear on the bottom

BFSC:BABY NEON AND PRINT ( HIGH WAISTED)

I am so happy to have 3 items crossed of my BFSC list, I am still trying to come up with a strategic plan to get all the posts in by the 31st lol! So right now my focus is on finishing the challenge,I know it may seem like I have tunnel vision but I promise to post other content once the challenge is over.

When I spotted these scarf print pants at Target I did a double take.My love for palazzo pants has been growing and I had been seriously lusting for the palazzo pants at Zara, but unfortunately they have limited sizing.

Similarly my love for neon has increased exponentially.I spotted both pieces during a trip to target and I knew they would make a perfect combination.

Target is one of my favorite places to shop because they are a wonderful source for trendy inexpensive pieces,they go up to 3x in straight sizes, they have a plus size section and extended shoe sizes.
P.S Thanks to Chanelfiles I have added additional(Target)items  to my never ending list of wants Lord help me!

BIG FAT SUMMER CHALLENGE: WEAR A MAXI

If you are curvy/plus-size/fat/full figured then I know that at one time or the other you have struggled with summer time attire.

So if you dont know what the Big Fat Summer Challenge is it is a challenge that requires us to wear certain items within a certain time frame (started by Jennifer of jasiferlionsclub )

The challenge is designed to get us to try other fashion alternatives as well as get us out of our comfort zone.

For someone who loves fashion as much as I do I am usually very practical about what I buy, and also tend to buy classics. 

I really dislike spending money on trendy items for multiple reasons, but mostly because I have a pretty rigid budget and also because I thrift shop. Anyway I was on the look out for a chiffon maxi skirt; so when I spotted these bad boys in the non-plus section of Forever 21 my heart did a little dance.

P.S Just realized that I pretty much wore head to toe forever21
