Ways to Wear a Denim Dress : Fall Fashion

If you watched my recent Haul on YouTube you would know that I have been searching for months for the perfect denim dress. Perfect meaning the right style, quality, fit, and PRICE ok, and honestly I think I found it in this Dress from Forever21. Is it me or has Forevr21+ step up their game this season ( right now get 20% of $100, 15% of $80 , 10% of $40).

I was so excited when I spotted this dress, as soon as I got it in the mail, I didnt even wait to shoot it. Pros nice light weight denim + belt to cinch and define; cons a few straggly threads. The Dress is under $30, I think its true to junior sizing, I got a size 2X (I am a 16/18) and I can only say good things.

For this look I decided to go a little dressy with my Lace Up sandals ( Flats Here) from Zara ( see Footwear Guide) and my trusty leather Bucket Bag. I forgot to wear my favorite Forever21 Round Sunglasses which I think would have been the perfect finish to the look. 

To dress this look down I would pair the Dress with Black or Leopard slip-ons and a Tote for the ultimate weekend chic look. When It gets cooler I would layer a Black or Stripe Turtle Neck underneath, chuck on a Leather Jacket Tights and Boots or I would open the Dress up, wear it as a duster, by adding a pair of Black Jeans . Needless to say their are a plethora of ways to style this Denim Dress and its a piece you will get a ton of wear out of.

Next to my Leather Jacket from Old Navy  my army green cargo/ Parka/anorak jacket from JCPenney is probably my most worn topper ( everyone liked how I styled it HERE).  Recently I decided to retire my cargo jacket because It was starting to show it age I'd had it for close to five years give or take a few . You would probably catch me wearing it no matter the season, because it was so easy to layer.
With fall ( see Fall picks) upon us I knew it was time to invest in another one. I actually purchased this One, and this One (see 4 reasons to shopping ahead) so that I could decide which works best for me (I choose this One) .
While browsing another bloggers website, I saw that she also talked about Parka's and it just clicked that I might not be the only one looking for a Parka. Ive also included Leather Jackets (luv this Fringed One) as well as Fur Vest because they are also essentials and can be layered as temperatures dip.
Depending on the style Parka can be paired with Jeans, a Tee and cute Flats (like This) on the weekend; or  you can pair them with a Short Dress ( like I did Here) and Boots.
Unquestionably  Parkas are a Fall essential and perfect for seasonal transitioning.

A FoolProof Outfit Formula that Works EveryTime: Fall Fashion

If your following me on Instagram (@supplechic)  you will know that one of my favorite trends for this A/W (shop Fall Prep) is the 70's trend.

 One of the essential pieces to come out of this trend is the front button skirt; so when I saw this Skirt on Forever21 for less than $25 I jumped at it. 

I love the mustard color and I decided to play with light neutrals, to up the 70's factor I pared it with a Shaggy Vest ( similar in Faux Fur) and since its not quite sweater weather some Strappy Sandals. 

When its colder you can pair the Skirt with a striped Turtle neck, patterned tights and OTK Boots or Booties.

So how do you get the perfect outfit every time? The formula is simple:

 1 basic + 1 interesting piece +  a completer + standard accessories

 I can't take credit for this idea got it from whowhatwear. After reflecting I realize that this formula really works and it's one that I have been using unknowingly.  If you don't believe me let me break it down by dissecting today's outfit. The basic: my Wrap top , interesting piece: mustard Skirt, completer: Shag vest or Faux Fur . standard accessories: Shoes/Bag/jewelry viola!!

Let me share something about my self I hate wearing Boots (unless they look like This ) just joking but they arnt my first choice (maybe it's because I was born on an island); if your following me on instagram (@supplechic) you would notice that I rarely wear them . 

I love walking bare feet and remembered growing up that it would drive my mother crazy. I have longish size 10 1/2 wide feet (basically an 11) and I hate that  constricting feeling I get when I have to stuff them into shoes. 

Which is why I love summer, that sense of freedom you get when you can take off your Boots, paint your toenails and put on a nice sandal is priceless. 

 In this part of the world fall (shop Fall Finds) is inevitable and my feet must go back into Boots . When that has to happen it might as well be in These,  which I would pair them with & .

 So if you're like me and will be taking it hard when you have to put those Boots back on, here are a few pairs of shoes to make the transition just a little bit easier .

Winter is coming ..................
Which means its time to dust off your leathers and furs. As always I try to approach shopping for each new season with a strategy. Simply because after years and years of shoppers remorse Ive whittled it down to a science. So this fall these are the key pieces I will be wearing/adding to keep my wardrobe current.

The first and most versatile item you need is a striped shirt next to a white tee you wont find anything better. I myself am still on the hunt for the perfect one; one thats just lightweight enough not to feel constricting.

The next thing you need is a slip on its such an of the moment piece and if your not into sneakers then its perfect because it gives you the comfort of a sneaker with some added height and without the inconvenience of laces.

Following that, a must have accessory is the statement clutch the wilder the saying the better it adds just the perfect touch of uniqueness to any look.

Next is the duster cardigan its definitely a new obsession of sorts, simply because its the winter version of a kimono and honestly after poring through pages and pages of street style shots from the Tehran Times I think the subliminal messages got to me.

In addition to those pieces I added a few other necessary pieces, a pleated mini full skirt, a fur vest and finally sweats (shirt and pants).

Harlem World: Black Sweatshirt and White Midi Skirt

This sweatshirt made me nostalgic. Two thoughts came to mind as I thought about the word Harlem, me going into the city jumping off at 125th to get my hair braided and then rushing over to 34th street to get in some shopping and  the 90's single / remix with Diddy (Puff Daddy as he was formally known), Mase and a host of others. Dont you just miss those days.

The other day I walked outside in a dress and some flats and felt a cool breeze thats when it dawned on me that it was officially fall and that it was time to start dusting off my winter clothes. 

As soon as I scored this sweatshirt ( while thrifting I dare say brand new) I knew that I was going to dress it up and make it more feminine. So I paired it with my plexiglass belt from Asos  in order to give me some shape and finished it with my white skirt from River Island. Since we are still transitioning into fall the weather was mild enough for me to pair the look with sandals; I had to add some color so I decided on my orange clutch.

DOROTHY PERKINS FALL PREVIEW

While I was in New York for FFFWeek I attended the fall preview for Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridges and a few other brands. Whether we like it or not "winter is coming"(in my John Snow voice) and summer sales are in full effect. If you are a bargain shopper like me this is the best time to shop. With that in mind I leave you with some of the covetable pieces from Dorothy Perkins AW13 collection. I predict we will be matching alot this autumn and winter.

Hope every one is doing well, their is a story behind these pants or shall I say this outfit. I originally spotted these pants on Brittany's instagram and took a shine to them. Then days later beyonce posted this on Instagram and I knew I had to have it.  I was plesantly suprised by the quality of its construction no fragile sequins here and it was a steal at $30. I know the look is not a hundred percent the same but its definitely a look for less because Beyonce's Stella Mccartney pants cost around $450 and my whole outfit is not even half of that. Thinking of doing more celeb inspired look for less YAY or NAY.

P.s. When I was in high school I could have gotten a job as a fashion Illustrator I lived for it. Was really excited when I found out about this sketch feature! One click and you can turn your picture into a drawing.

 Happy Valentines day all,hope you have an awesome time with your loved ones and that you spread some of that love. So you might recall the five things post I did, and that one of the things on the post was my love for the T-shirt and pencil skirt combo. However that love seems to have grown past the pencil skirt and I am loving pairing T-shirts with dresser pieces (skater skirts,leather pants as well sequins). I really love the mix of casual with dressy it creates that effortless look. Since it is Valentines day I thought why not wear my heart. So how do you feel about dressing up T-shirts YAY or NAY

ITS MY BIRTHDAY..........

MONTH! Happy Birthday to all the FEB babies from my Aquarius's to my Pieces!! I was actually born in between the two signs; the story of my life ( cant never be categorized lol) any way thats for another post. So I thought it would only make sense to post the outfit I wore to a friends birthday night-out which was on the Inaugural weekend. Let me just say that that weekend was crazy. Since I live in the DC NON-METRO area it was just another weekend for me, it wasnt till I got into DC METRO area that I realized the ridiculousness of the situation. I hadn't realized that so  many people actually migrated to the capital for the event.

The Highlight of the night was probably seeing Jamie Fox he looks different in person (smaller). On the opposite spectrum I left my ID in my car and we carpooled, so  I wasn't sure if  I would even get in, the lounge/club we went to was packed there were definitely fire violations and of course this had to be the first time in years that I actually overpaid to enter. So the moral of the story: I learned that clubbing is not for me anymore, am strictly a dinner and lounging kinda girl and if I look a little cray in the pictures its because they were taken at four in the morning.

P.s So happy that my birthday coincides with tax return season have a few things on my list. First order of business start taking care of my skin. I am after all getting older. I am thinking of getting the Clarisonic has anyone tried it?

So I was browsing one of my favorite sites Asos and as usual I wanted everything on the site! but I noticed that they had an assortment of LBD's then it clicked to me that the next comercial holiday, Valentines Day is around corner coincidence maybe. While brainstorming for the post I decided to do a "naughty" and "nice" post. I dont know about you but I know most women bring their "A" game on "vals" even the ones that are anti -valentines; cause if you have a man your making sure his attention is on you and if your trying or "not trying" to land a man your making sure the attentions on you lol!
