Wedding Guest : Lace Top & Floral Pumps

wedding, guest, attire

bandage, skirt, bodycon
LACE TOP // BANDAGE SKIRT // FLORAL PUMP // PINK CLUTCH
I know its officially wedding season once spring rolls in  and the invitations start coming in.  Wedding are expensive period even for the wedding guest from paying for travel, lodging, gifts and so much more, its great to be able to save a little on your outfit. Most women are under the assumption that you must buy a new dress every time you go to a wedding this is an unfortunate misconception. Why you might ask? What happens is that we fill our wardrobes with either really expensive or really cheap dresses that may not be worn again due to their uniqueness.

So whats the solution, if you have  weddings on your social calendar this season its best to create a capsule wardrobe of sorts.
To do this your first step is to take stock of what you have in your closet and identify those pieces that could be worn to a wedding; think dressy separates in fabrics like chiffon, lace, metallics ( like this almost sold out  Lace Top  or this Bandage Skirt ), solid colored dresses, statement accessories like this Ornate Clutch (statement earrings) & or shoes ( like these Sophia Webster 3D Floral sandals).
Next decide on a color scheme, black is always an easy choice, jewel tones ( like this burgundy  Bandage Dress)  are also great for formal weddings as well as pinks & floral tones ( see additional options Here). Dressing for weddings is very similar to holiday parties see post on that Here .
Finally fill in the gaps typically this involves buying an accessory, shoe or separate that will allow you to interchange your separates in order to create new looks.

Blush is one of my favorite colors this spring, I've never been a pink girl but I love the subtlety of blush. For this look I decided I wanted to play with the shade by going monochrome.
If your going for the monochrome look adding contrast is key. You accomplish this by playing with different shades of a color or by wearing different textures.  Finally to tie the look together, I chose a Floral Pump that has various shades of pink and a bit of red.

Finally dont forget about the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale and to get your Tickets for theCurvyCon! Dont know what theCurvyCon is check out my post Here. Also I have an extra discounted ($30 off) general admission ticket for sale send me a message if interested. Cant wait to see you there!
What do you think about todays monochrome look? Would you wear it to a wedding; what would you change?

What to Wear Easter Edition: Purple Blouse and Skirt + Orange Pumps

Purple Blouse and Skirt, Boohoo Plus

co-ords , boohoo plus, lilac skirt
SKIRT // TOP // TRENCH // PUMPS // WATCH
I looked up at the calendar and it was Good Friday. I didn't even have Easter in mind when I shot this look. It wasn't until after that I realized that I wore an almost identical look last easter and at the time I was telling myself to blog the look but instead I blogged this look ( which coincidentally is almost identical to this too), but you know sometimes, actually living life gets in the way of blogging. So I guess we've come full circle.

I am not sure why but around this time of year I am usually semi obsessed with pastels maybe its all the pictures of, and actual Easter eggs floating around. If your apprehensive about wearing pastels, here are a few tips to keep in mind when wearing them. Try pairing your pastels with rich, dark hues, like my orangey/red pumps. To offset the light, juvenile nature of some pastels, pair it with edgy pieces, like leather or leopard. If you're nervous about looking like an Easter egg, try pastel pieces in classic shapes, like my classic pencil skirt. Finally pair pastels with  other classic pieces like stripes or a pointy toed pump.

For this look I decided to keep things easy by pairing two lilac pieces together ( they didnt come together but they make a nice Co-ord) the top is actually form JcPenney and the skirt is from Boohoo( you can get a similar one Here I also love this Tutu version Here). Instead of going for a neutral shoe like I typically would I decided to add some heat to the look by pairing it with my Ankle Strap Pumps (I also love these crosstrap wide width pumps in Yellow and Pink)  and since it is spring I finished the look with a spring staple the Trench ( additional option Here). If you dont have a trench you  love already you need to stop what your doing and order this One! (I promise it will pay for itself over and over again).

Valentines Day Style : His and Hers Outfit ( Casual Date)

Valentines day, His and Hers, outfit ideas, how to, wear, beanie
HIS //  JACKET (on sale!!) // SWEATPANTS // SWEATER // SNEAKER // SUN GLASSES // WATCH // BEANIE
HER //  BOYFRIEND JEANS // SWEATER // JACKET  //  FLATS // PUMPS // CLUTCH // WATCH
Valentines day is this Saturday what!! I cant believe we are already in the second month of 2015 it looks like this year will be a fast one. Anyway I decided to put together a couple of looks to give you ideas for valentines day. I thought why not do a his and hers look; the first installment is a casual look perfect for a movie or a game or concert or a comedy show (insert what yall do for fun here) and dinner.

I just realized while creating this set that the leather sweatpants maybe a little too Kanye for some men, just substitute with a great pair of black jeans like this one from Nordstrom. Pairing the Sweatpants with smart accessories and a Tailored Jacket takes the look from couch potato to casual chic. I dont know why but I am obsessed with these Saint Laurent Fringe sneakers its a perfect example of what I just described; here the designer has taken something casual ( a sneaker) and added formal elements ( fringe) to elevate the look.

I wanted both looks to compliment each other and because I am a rebel I decided I wanted to stay away from valentines red so I went with an ox-bloody color. I wanted to keep things simple, this is  supposed to be a casual date  so I went with Boyfriend Jeans and a great pair of flats like this Leopard One from sole society . Finally to complete the look I finished off with a Fur Clutch and a sleeveless camel coat (a great coat can cover a multitude of sins). If your still looking for a gift for your boo, you definitely want to check out the Mens Shop at N&M they offer free 2 day shipping so its not too late.

Dont miss out on the ASOS sale use code PREZDAY20 to get 20% off

The D.I.Y New Years Eve Cocktail Outfit

 ALL BLACK COCKTAIL OUTFIT

BLAZER // SKIRT // CLUTCH // PUMPS
I have a really hard time finding dresses I love its gotten easier since the whole ladylike/retro look has been  trending. However prior to this it was either the dress was to short or not long enough I am 5''8 or it had no sleeves or it look like something an old lady would wear. This why I have a closet full of separates which comes with the gift  of versatility. So if you are like me and dont have a closet full of fancy dresses or you find yourself in need of cocktail attire on short notice then this is the post for you.

The formula is simple a tuxedo or double breasted long line blazer and any bottom of your choice  all in the same color; skip the shell (this is important because this is what takes the look from day to night) finish off the look with an evening appropriate  shoe ( like this pair Here , more options Here) , bag ( like this patent one Here , or this sparkly one Here, see  more options Here) and accessories.

I must warn you that this look is a lot easier to pull off if you have less to reveal around the décolletage  however  it is not impossible if you have the right undergarment ( like this great Plunge Bra Here). I was cautiously optimistic that this bra would keep my 38 DD girls in check but it did. So I would definitely recommend it, if you want further details ask in the comments.

As I said earlier the formula is simple, I choose  my black long line blazer ( like this one Here) and I paired it with a lace skirt to dress up the look a bit more; finally I finished it off with an encrusted box clutch ( like this one Here) and my black pumps.

My Christmas Dress: 15 Must Have Curve Friendly Party Dresses

BUTTON UP // DRESS // PUMPS
Nostalgia while  brainstorming for this post I decided to look on google cause I was having "writers" block (its in air quotes i dont consider my self a writer). I found some great one but the one that stock out to me the most was comparing christmas now to when you were a child. I decided to tweek it a little; instead of comparing eras I will be comparing what christmas was like growing up in Nigeria vs growing up in the USA. Some of you know that I grew up in between the two countries I feel like I have and interesting out hence the title, here we go.

First difference would be Santa Clause in Nigeria he is called Father Christmas and he was usually a black guy in an ill fitting santa suit who was typically sweating profusely. I dont think anyone wondered about his origins he was just a part christmas like decorations.

Another major difference was the job/role of Santa, I didnt know anyone when I was little in Nigeria who believed he delivered presents.  If for no other reason but the fact that no one had chimneys /fire places (its a tropical country). It was quite clear to us that our gifts came from our parents.

Next difference was the christmas tree this was not a norm in most households if a house did have a tree it would be a white or metallic tree. A lot of the decorations you would find would be christmas cards displayed and DIY garlands. Mostly business invested in the kind of fawn and fodder that we see in most households here.

The last difference I noticed was that although presents where given in some households it wasnt expected / the norm. Most peoples presents was their christmas dress. shoe & the "correct" jollof rice and chicken after church. For christmas most people got to wear their best and newest outfit.

I think ive covered most of it but if you would like to add any feel free to comment down below. If you are not nigerian but have a similar style christmas comment down below.

Now to the outfit this dress is a recent purchase from HM and its under $30, just how I like it ( see similar options Here). Its a scuba material so the size large fit perfectly, I am a 16/18 for reference; it also came in other prints. I decided to layer on a black button up ( like this one Here) cause its cold outside and I dusted off my mustard pumps (like this from Nordstrom  Here a definite color that you should invest in) which matched perfectly with the print on the dress.

I love dresses because they simplify getting ready and around the holidays when you have so many events and so many demands  on your time they are perfect. So Ive rounded up a few dresses to help simplify things. Dont forget to enter my Giveaway Here

A Plaid Coat & Lace Blouse

HOW TO WEAR A PLAID COAT

HM, PLAID COAT, PLUS, SIZE
COAT // BLOUSE // CLUTCH // SANDALS
I tend to default to this lace blouse when I am looking for a dressy blouse.  In my opinion every wardrobe needs to have an arsenal of dressy blouses ( like this cute one from Asos Here or Here) because they add instant polish to any look.

I scored this plaid jacket from H&M online for less than 60 bucks and its worth every penny especially because of the quality. I stalked it for months though because it was originally a hundred plus. I always say that if you buy/have nothing else during the winter months, have a great coat (like this versatile one from Eloquii Here or Here). You can have rags underneath but a great coat covers all lol.

For this look I really wanted to wear jeans but I had to dress up so I choose my lace blouse from Forever 21. My coat is a mixture of navy and camel to tie in both colors  I choose my Zara sandals which happen to be navy & black  and I went with my fur clutch to compliment the camel in the coat.

Hope your enjoying the holidays and hopefully your not procrastinating like me and you've gotten all your holiday shopping and gifts out of the way. However if you are in the same boat as me then make sure you check out my gift guides Here , Here and Here, Ive even got them separated by price!

Glad About Plaid: Flannel Shirt and Faux Leather Skirt

leather, flannel

How to wear, leather and flannel

asos, fur, clutch
Flannel//Leather Skirt//Statement Clutch//Pumps
As I write this I've created 3 versions of my next gift guide for christmas and hated all of them. I really want to curate the right mix of high end and low end. If you want to know the theme of my next gift guide you can check out my picks I am sure it will be apparent.
In the mean time I bring you plaid and leather. Its no secret plaid is everywhere from body-con dresses to cozy scarfs but honestly I never thought it went out of style for fall and winter. The only
difference I see is its reincarnation in atypical fabrics like silk, chiffon and jersey
For this look I went with a classic flannel and decided to tuck it into a faux leather skirt from Asos to add some edge.
I love the construction of this skirt. I typically have difficulty with fit, when it comes to fabrics with no stretch, because of my disproportionate measurements. However the construction of this skirt eliminates that problem because its faux leather and jersey. So if you are like me make sure to look for jersey insets in your pieces. Finally I finished the look with my current faves my fur clutch to play up on texture and black pumps

8 Fall Must Haves

FALL FASHION MUST HAVES
Click to get the Striped Tee, Slip ons, Full Skirt, Culottes, Duster, Statement Clutch and Sweatshirt
OR "SHOP THE POST" down below
Winter is coming ..................
Which means its time to dust off your leathers and furs. As always I try to approach shopping for each new season with a strategy. Simply because after years and years of shoppers remorse Ive whittled it down to a science. So this fall these are the key pieces I will be wearing/adding to keep my wardrobe current.

The first and most versatile item you need is a striped shirt next to a white tee you wont find anything better. I myself am still on the hunt for the perfect one; one thats just lightweight enough not to feel constricting.

The next thing you need is a slip on its such an of the moment piece and if your not into sneakers then its perfect because it gives you the comfort of a sneaker with some added height and without the inconvenience of laces.

Following that, a must have accessory is the statement clutch the wilder the saying the better it adds just the perfect touch of uniqueness to any look.

Next is the duster cardigan its definitely a new obsession of sorts, simply because its the winter version of a kimono and honestly after poring through pages and pages of street style shots from the Tehran Times I think the subliminal messages got to me.

In addition to those pieces I added a few other necessary pieces, a pleated mini full skirt, a fur vest and finally sweats (shirt and pants).

Harlem World: Black Sweatshirt and White Midi Skirt

How to dress up a sweatshirt, plussize

Shoedazzle Candis

River island White Midi Skirt

how to wear a midi skirt in the fall
Click here to get a similar sweatshirt, skirt, sandals and clutch or "SHOP THE POST" down below
This sweatshirt made me nostalgic. Two thoughts came to mind as I thought about the word Harlem, me going into the city jumping off at 125th to get my hair braided and then rushing over to 34th street to get in some shopping and  the 90's single / remix with Diddy (Puff Daddy as he was formally known), Mase and a host of others. Dont you just miss those days.

The other day I walked outside in a dress and some flats and felt a cool breeze thats when it dawned on me that it was officially fall and that it was time to start dusting off my winter clothes.

As soon as I scored this sweatshirt ( while thrifting I dare say brand new) I knew that I was going to dress it up and make it more feminine. So I paired it with my plexiglass belt from Asos  in order to give me some shape and finished it with my white skirt from River Island. Since we are still transitioning into fall the weather was mild enough for me to pair the look with sandals; I had to add some color so I decided on my orange clutch.

NYFW Recap : Favorite Shows & The RewardStyle Soiree

Tee & Clutch: Forever21,  Skirt: Thrift  Sandals: JustFab
I originally had no plans to be part of NYFW simply because I have been working on growing this blog and my YouTube channel to the point that it would open the right doors. However when I got the invite for the Rewardstyle event I knew that I had to make the trek to NYC.

The event attracts everyone from different spheres of the blogging world from folks like Girl Meets Glam who is the million dollar club to folks like little old me. It was a blast albeit a tad bit crowded and short lived because I was almost 2 hours late. The event was hosted right across from Lincoln Center at the Empire Hotel hence the first picture.

Even though I was only physically present for one day I decided this year that I would repost some of my favorite looks from the shows on my Twitter and Facebook and I included some of them in this collage. Honestly I think you have to be completely passionate to work in the world of fashion, because after one day I was drained. Im just imagining how its is for the editors that have to attend NYFW, LFW,PFW, and MFW all in the span of about a month.

Fall Forecast: Top 5 Noteworthy Trends

So with NYFW only a few days away I decided to round up my top 5 newish fall trends. The first trend being Matchy Matchy trend is still going strong and it was seen on quite a few runways  like the ones of Jonathan Sanders and Peter Pilotto.  Honestly I've been looking for a set that I really like and that wouldn't break the bank for under $40 its been almost impossible. However I spotted a set on
Asos that  I may be purchasing. Even though it is a little bit more than I wanted to pay, if I get it Ill be sure to feature it.

The next trend that has piqued my interest is the  Robe Coat  it was also featured on a couple of runways like that of  Altuzurra, and Mark Fast. If you know me you know how much I  like to cinch my waist. Sometimes in heavy  coats one tends to loose their shape so I love how this design helps to keep that. Elizabeth Toledo  designed a beautiful one for her Lane Bryant collection but I believe it is sold out.

Pastel colors were the break through colors for last fall. Pastel pink coats were seen allover the street style blogs and this year the trend was equally as popular and was featured on the runways of  Chloe, Carvin and Gucci. For now pastels are no longer reserved for the spring. If your wondering how to style it pair it neutrals like grey. I definitely plan on wearing my pastels this fall.

Solange is a street style star in my book; I remember spotting a picture of her in head to toe primary colors and I was awed. Well it turns out she as always was ahead of us all. The bright color trend was spotted on runways like Prabal Gurung, Monique Lhuillier, Altuzarra and Alexander Wang. So if standing out is your thing then this  is a definite trend to try.

Last but not least is the shift dress trend this nod to 60"s mod was spotted on runways like D Square, Gucci, Mui Mui, and Valentino. I have to say that I dont care for this trend much because despite the fact that I have worn minis in the past its not the best for my body type. Simply because I carry weight in my thighs; However this  is a great trend for women with an inverted triangle shape because they typically have great slender legs. The A line silhouette also creates the illusion of fuller  hips so if you have this body type this is a definite trend to try .

The new season means new trends, however there were quiet a few trends from last fall that are still going strong this fall plaid, midi skirts, and leopard print just name a few so dont feel like you need to go and buy a completely new fall wardrobe. If you do want to refresh for fall I believe that these trends that I have highlighted above will update your fall wardrobe perfectly.

Are there any trends I should have added to the list?

A Ten-ish Year Reunion of Sorts : Graphic Tee and Linen Pants

Click here to get a similar jacketpants, pumps, and clutch or "SHOP THE POST" down below
Well this post was supposed to be an outfit post from my friends wedding which was meant to be a ten-ish year reunion of sorts, but I was quite disappointed with the dress I ordered I even ordered a backup dress and that was worse lol! I frantically went to the mall the morning of trying to find something FAIL! So I wore the dress anyway; I loved my shoes though so I guess that made up for it. I really cant complain either because it was all my fault for not trying on the dress until the night before the wedding. In leu of that here is a look from my "3 Ways to Wear a Band Tee" video on YouTube. This look features one of my summer favorites a white blazer. I paired it with these linen Asos pants to create a suit-ish look and added some edge with my Forever 21 Nirvana tee.
