D.I.Y Costume Ideas: Rosie the Riveter

JEANS // CHAMBRAY SHIRT // LEOPARD PUMPS 

I want to premise this by saying that I dont celebrate Halloween, the origins of the holiday ( if you can call it that) and its background do not sit well with me. However I totally understand why people enjoy the holiday; like who dosnt like playing dress up. 

I choose to do this post now because I know that with the aforementioned holiday looming costumes are on every ones mind.  Rather than over paying on another ‘pre-made’ corny, ill fititng, and not well made costume, my suggestion is to D.I.Y your costume. Its original, you save some money (that you can put towards these Killer Boots) and you are sure no one will be wearing your exact look .

For the first costume I choose a classic Rosie the Riveter  ( a symbol of female empowerment) this costume is probably one of the easiest costumes to recreate because all of the items are pieces that most people have in their closet. 

Everyone has or  knows some one who has Denim, and a Red Scarf; because of the nature of the poster we dont know what she has on on the bottom, so you can let your imagination run wild ( but remember you want the focus to be on your top half). Instead of a Canadian tuxedo like ive shown, you could do a Denim Jumpsuit or a Denim Dress  and pair the look with Converses, red Sandals ( on sale $40),  or printed Pumps like I've done.

Monochrome: White Crop Top & Floral Midi Skirt

Any one who knows me knows I dont play when it comes to ShapeWear. For me dressing is about the clothes, and foundations can make or break a look especially when you are plus.

Simply because you have those extra curves that mannequins dont have and most designers dont factor in. 

I think its important  to have an arsenal of foundations at your disposal at the very least a High waist Thigh Shaper, a High Waist Brief , finally a  Full Body Shaper .  For example This Miraclesuit High Waist Thigh Slimmer

will smooth you out in a badass dress like This ( which I have my eye on by the way), & this TC  Shapewear Smoothing  Half Slip  will compliment a skirt like This perfectly ( and  you wont have to worry about chaffing).

 I love a good Bra! When you are endowed with bosoms you cant afford to skimp in that department ( this Bra has 525 reviews and almost 5 stars!!). Lane Bryant is my go to for Bras and I always stock up on everyday Bras when they have a sale ( however if you are looking for longevity you may want to try department store brands  like These ).

 I love Lane Bryant's T Shirt Style Bras ( they just mold your boobs perfectly, and are so comfy ) and I recently pick up this One (left in only 38DDD) and these full coverage Ones. 

I also love Cacique because I can always  find specialty bras in my SIZE! like this extreme Plunge Bra (which I own )  and this Strapless Bra  which I have on in this outfit. 

As I stated before foundations are necessary in my opinion if you want your clothes to look their best on you; So you dont want to skip or skimp on them! Shop my Shapewear and Bra  picks down below.
As for my outfit I kept things pretty monochrome. My Asos Skirt (  on sale for $19!!) in sz 14  was the focus of the look so I choose pieces that would compliment it. Since the Skirt is pretty high waist-ed and fitted  I choose my Off Shoulder ( see off shoulder picks Here & even more Here)  billowy Crop Top to balance proportions. Finally I finished the look with my go to Lace Up Sandals in black ( also in Red) & continued the monochrome theme with my accessories.  Have  you started your fall shopping yet? When in doubt wear neutrals!The Bomber/Letterman jacket is not quite mainstream, but I have a hunch that it will be by Fall.

 The bomber is making a come back its been re-incarnated in a streamline version of the original in a variety of prints and on trend colors( my favorite being the floral prints,it creates the perfect mix of feminine and sporty). Additionally its a great alternative to a standard suit jacket and makes the perfect light weight jacket for spring.

 Hi all, not feeling 100% today decided to stay home cause I was tired of going to work sick! Unfortunately for me in the thick of it I had 2 meetings that would have been a hassel to reschedule so I went to work. I hate being sick its such a waste of time and if you are a mom you will know that being sick is for non-moms lol daddies try but..........

P.s this look was actually from my last look-book cant go wrong with a skater skirt its faltering on most body types.

Hope every one is doing well, their is a story behind these pants or shall I say this outfit. I originally spotted these pants on Brittany's instagram and took a shine to them. Then days later beyonce posted this on Instagram and I knew I had to have it.  I was plesantly suprised by the quality of its construction no fragile sequins here and it was a steal at $30. I know the look is not a hundred percent the same but its definitely a look for less because Beyonce's Stella Mccartney pants cost around $450 and my whole outfit is not even half of that. Thinking of doing more celeb inspired look for less YAY or NAY.

P.s. When I was in high school I could have gotten a job as a fashion Illustrator I lived for it. Was really excited when I found out about this sketch feature! One click and you can turn your picture into a drawing.

 Happy Valentines day all,hope you have an awesome time with your loved ones and that you spread some of that love. So you might recall the five things post I did, and that one of the things on the post was my love for the T-shirt and pencil skirt combo. However that love seems to have grown past the pencil skirt and I am loving pairing T-shirts with dresser pieces (skater skirts,leather pants as well sequins). I really love the mix of casual with dressy it creates that effortless look. Since it is Valentines day I thought why not wear my heart. So how do you feel about dressing up T-shirts YAY or NAY

ITS MY BIRTHDAY..........

MONTH! Happy Birthday to all the FEB babies from my Aquarius's to my Pieces!! I was actually born in between the two signs; the story of my life ( cant never be categorized lol) any way thats for another post. So I thought it would only make sense to post the outfit I wore to a friends birthday night-out which was on the Inaugural weekend. Let me just say that that weekend was crazy. Since I live in the DC NON-METRO area it was just another weekend for me, it wasnt till I got into DC METRO area that I realized the ridiculousness of the situation. I hadn't realized that so  many people actually migrated to the capital for the event.

The Highlight of the night was probably seeing Jamie Fox he looks different in person (smaller). On the opposite spectrum I left my ID in my car and we carpooled, so  I wasn't sure if  I would even get in, the lounge/club we went to was packed there were definitely fire violations and of course this had to be the first time in years that I actually overpaid to enter. So the moral of the story: I learned that clubbing is not for me anymore, am strictly a dinner and lounging kinda girl and if I look a little cray in the pictures its because they were taken at four in the morning.

P.s So happy that my birthday coincides with tax return season have a few things on my list. First order of business start taking care of my skin. I am after all getting older. I am thinking of getting the Clarisonic has anyone tried it?

In leau of the time of year I thought "boyfriend" would be a fitting title Valentines is upon us if your in need of a dress you can check out my previous post HERE. So I bought this pair of boyfriend jeans about 3 years ago and right off the bat I noticed it wasnt very "boyfriendy" on me cause of the hips and derrière the lord bless me with. For many reasons like my hatered of whiskering on jeans, these bad boys havnt gotten alot of wear (like 90% of my closet) but as of late they've come on my radar maybe it is  because some of my favorite bloggers/celebs have been wearing them. What are the characteristics of a good boyfriend jean you might ask:

1. slouchy 
2. faded and destroyed
3. cuffed (because of course your boyfriend is way taller than you so you had to cuff his jeans)
4. from your boyfriend/fav neighborhood denim retailer

Boyfriend jeans and white two tricky trends on plus-size/curvy women, as always its about how you style it. So how do you feel about the winter white and boyfriend jean trend ( boyfriend jeans tend to favor a boyish body type and white makes everything look larger!!)are you for them or against them and have you tried these trends.

P.s this was supposed to be a winter white post, but you get a two fer because fortunately or unfortunately I dont have any white bottoms and honestly I am scared of white I would be a nervous wreck  the whole time from trying not to get stained.
